R Norrington
The memorial inscription is clearly engraved with initial R, however there is no one in the CWGC register with the name R Norrington, however I suspect that the inscription should perhaps read A. Norrington
and thus refer to Albert William Norrington, born in Crundale, whose parents had moved to Petham by 1939 and were living there at the time of his going missing, being reported as POW, and then notified that he was presumed dead. He is listed on the hastingleigh.com list of WW2 casualties connected to the village, with details of his biography.[Click]

His parents and elder siblings were from Hastingleigh/Elmsted. He is also commemorated on the Canterbury War Memorial just outside the main entrance to the Cathedral.
