This is probably the grave of John Coveney, who dictates
in his will that he wishes to be buried IN Hastingleigh church next to
his wife. This would date the grave circa 1676. |

church, was commissioned from local Hastingleigh artist Gordon Lionel
Davies (1926-2007)and donated to the church by John Knight and his
sister Chris Gorell Barnes in 1984, in memory of their late mother
Emsie Knight. |

Three Unidentified:
There are three stones lying flat on the ground surrounding
the Holly tree
in the far north western corner, by the front fence,
and close to the old sun dial pillar.
Two are full size
headstones, either laid with their inscriptions face down or the
inscriptions have been lost to time and weathering.
The third
stone is either a child's stone or possibly a foot stone, and it too
has no visible inscription.
These stones are usually covered over
by grass and ivy, unless you happen to be
visiting in winter or
spring after the greenery has been cut right back by the
gardeners.
