1939 Census of Hastingleigh Parish taken on 29th September .

Population:  approximately 215 .

LCC=Local County Council, RD=Registration District, RAMC= Royal Army Medical Corps

the data collected was Property Name, names of occupants, their sex, date of birth, marital status, occupation, and any war time special service or skill.
Where the words "Heavy-Worker" have been used, this would allow for an extra food ration above the normal allowance, due to the harder physical work undertaken.
Extra allowances were also granted to pregnant women, growing children and members of the armed forces.
This list was used to issue everyone with a National Health Service Number, for that reason anyone still alive, or who died overseas, or who died after the list stopped being updated a few years ago, will have their names redacted or covered up.

Note: some properties in Hastingleigh were written up twice - with variations in names and dates of birth. Where there is a clash of data, I have noted both versions and any significant side notes added to the record over the years - such as change of surname when married.
