1839 Tithe Map & Field Names of Hastingleigh

A scroll down list of the locations, fields, roads,and property listed on the 1839 Tithe shedule pap for Hastingleigh Parish.
The Scrollable map beneath it is my 2014 version superimposed and based on the 1839 Map, (a microfilm B&W copy of 4
sections of the original map) is held at National Archives, London. The original map would have been colour coded, and
this means that the photocopies from microfilm are very poor quality indeed. It has taken many hours to decypher the 1839
Map from Kew, and combined with the list of the Tithe owner/occupier lists and field sizes along with reference back to a
1993 version of the map drawn up by Hastingleigh's own Trevor Wye, I have managed to decypher as much as I can, and taken
the liberty of naming locations where room permits. A useful source for alternative names is Brian Berry's book
Hastingleigh 1000-2000, also Ashford Council's plans of the village, and Ordnance Survey Maps in 1876 and 1908.
Beneath the map is a list of the owners, occupiers, field sizes and their contents.

Note: 1 acre is 4 roods; 1 rood is 40 perches. // £1 = 20 shillings and 1 shilling = 12 old pence.

Roads were not tarred until the 20th century, they would have been wide enough for 2 carts to pass; Tracks were
wide enough for 1 carts and are 'single track', and footpaths excluded carts and were pedestrian access only.
Not all 1839 map footpaths are shown on the 2014 version of the map as it was created to identify field names.
Subsequent OS Maps contain a disclaimer that footh paths shown do not indicate 'rights of way'.
